Events & Tours in Disc Golf

Disc golf competitions come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you're looking to join your first local event or planning your tournament schedule for the season, understanding how different events work will help you make the most of your competitive play.

Understanding Events

Think of an event as a single competition - it's what you register for, show up to play, and hopefully take home some prizes from! An event might be a one-day tournament at your local course, or it could be a major championship spanning multiple days with different rounds and pools of players.

Some events stand alone, while others are part of something bigger like a tour or league. But no matter the format, each event is its own complete competition with registration, players, rounds, and results.

One-Off Events: The Classic Tournament

One-off events are exactly what they sound like - standalone tournaments that aren't connected to a larger series. These events are perfect when you want to focus all the excitement into one competition. Maybe it's your club's annual championship, a charity fundraiser, or just a fun weekend competition. Players register, compete, and at the end of the final round, you have your winners!

Tours: The Season-Long Journey

Tours take competitive disc golf to the next level by connecting multiple events throughout the season. Think of it like following your favorite sports team - instead of just one game, you're tracking progress across many events.

A tour typically spreads its events across different locations throughout the year. Players earn points based on their performance at each stop, building toward overall tour rankings and season championships. It's exciting for players because they can chase tour points while still competing for individual event wins.

For example, you might see a regional tour with monthly events at different courses across your area. Each event has its own winners, but players are also earning points toward the tour championship. This format creates exciting storylines as players battle for tour positions throughout the season.

Leagues: Your Regular Competitive Fix

Leagues bring a different flavor to competitive disc golf. While they work similarly to tours in terms of tracking performance across multiple events, they're typically more localized and regular in their schedule.

Imagine showing up to your local course every Wednesday evening to compete with the same group of players. That's a league! Usually organized by local clubs or dedicated individuals, leagues provide a consistent competitive experience that helps players improve their game while building community.

The beauty of leagues is their regularity - you know exactly when and where to play each week. Some leagues run for specific seasons, while others continue year-round. They're perfect for players who want regular competition without traveling to different venues for each event.

Tjing offers several type of events while Discs are involved in all of them there is quite few options available depending on what you are looking for.

Discgolf

The biggest of the bunch and the primary focus of Tjing, don't need much more of an introduction that that. Tjing support ALOT of ways o play discgolf and running events, Singles, Doubles, Teams, Random Teams. Tee-Times, Group Signup, Flex Starts, it's all up to how you want to run your event.

Singles

The most common format, players registers themselves and play individually in groups or 3-5.

Doubles

Tjing has full support for doubles, your players creates a team before registering which then represents them throughout the event. Scorecards, messages, stats is all tracked and available for the team in your event.

Teams

In essence the same as Doubles but with more players (more fun?), set the rules and have teams partake up to 10 players per team.

Random Teams

Players sign up like in singles but before you create the groups for the first round the system will generate teams based on players divisions. The system is automated so you do not need to assign any teams yourself. You do have the option to select different amount of teams with different amout of players, this allows for very exciting formats and out of the box support for the odd man out to still participate!

Putting (Singles only)

Set up putting stations, assign number of attempts and points rewarded for a make and let your players loose. You can set up your own league or a one off event. Why not have a putting mini-game at your next event, just set it up, open registration and your players get a putting scorecard directly in the Tjing app. Ofcourse we have live leaderboards, event totals and even tour totals.

Distance (Singles only)

Involves a little bit more work on your end, someone has to measure the throws after all. Here your scoring marshall enters the distances for your players, just set up how many attempts each player get and you can record each and show the best one in the leaderboards.

Registration methods

Different events calls for different levels of registration control. Tjing offers several options and controls for registrations. There is alot of options available through division limitations, registration stages maximum and reserved spots, wildcards and event invitations available and we won't touch on all of them here.

List signup

All players are added to a list. You can decide if they are automatically confirmed as players in the event or should land on the waiting list first to then be manually moved up.

Group signup

Your relaxed weekly leagues best friend, have the players sign up directly into the group they want to play in on the startinghole of their choice. As a TD you always have the last say and can re-arrange as needed but this is a very popular choice to keep the normal shotgun start more casual and inviting for newcomers.

Flex start

Want to run an event from the comfort of your home or just allowplayers to show up whenever suits them? With flex start you simply set a minimum group size and once players have joined a group and the minimum is met they can start their round themselves. As a TD you still have control to adjust and move players but in most cases you don't need to do anything but watch your players on the course!

How They All Work Together

While each format has its own characteristics, they all complement each other in the disc golf ecosystem. You might play in your local league weekly, hit up some one-off events when they come to town, and follow a regional tour throughout the season.

The best part? Tjing helps you keep track of it all. Whether you're a player looking for events or an organizer running competitions, everything stays organized in one place. You can easily see upcoming events, track your results, and plan your competitive schedule.

INFO

Remember that while tours and leagues track overall standings, each individual event still has its own winners and payouts. So even if you can't play the full series, you can still jump in for individual events!
