Tjing Rating
How It Works
The Tjing Rating system lets you track your disc golf performance in both casual and competitive rounds — no PDGA membership or sanctioned play required.
Overview
- Ratings are calculated for every round you log, whether casual or competitive.
- Your overall rating is a rolling average of all rated rounds over the past 12 months.
- Casual and competitive ratings are tracked separately so you can compare your performance in each setting.
How Ratings Are Calculated
1. Base rating
Based on the Layout rating, in ideal conditions a course rated 975 will yield a 975 rating.
2. Score Adjustment
- Each stroke above or below par adjusts your rating.
- Base adjustment: ±7.5 points per stroke
- For scores further from par (up to 20 strokes), adjustments increase up to 50% more.
- A 5% scaling applies based on course difficulty.
3. Weather Adjustments
To reflect real-world playing conditions, ratings are boosted when playing in poor weather:
- Wind: +0.5 points per km/h above 12 km/h
- Rain: +0.2 points per mm of precipitation
- Temperature:
- Below 20°C: +0.1 point per degree
- Above 30°C: +0.1 point per degree All weather adjustments are normalized based on the number of holes played.
4. Course Difficulty
Each course’s difficulty is based on four equally weighted factors:
- Distance
- Terrain
- Precision
- Obstacles
This helps ensure ratings are fair across different course types.
5. Normalization
All ratings are normalized to an 18-hole baseline (e.g., ratings on 9-hole rounds are scaled to be comparable)
6. Final Rating
Final Rating = Base Rating + Score Adjustment + Weather Adjustments → Rounded to the nearest whole number
This rating system is designed to be:
- Transparent and accessible to all players
- Fair across casual and competitive play
- Adaptive to course difficulty and weather
- Motivating, no matter when or where you play
