Playing Casual Rounds

Most of your disc golf happens during casual rounds — relaxed games with friends or solo practise sessions where you can experiment and enjoy the sport. Tjing makes it easy to score, track and share those rounds.

Your digital scorecard

No more pencils or mental arithmetic. Tjing’s scorecard makes tracking a round as simple as a few taps: Pick your course and layout from our directory (or set up a custom one in seconds). Add players — search by name if they use Tjing, or add guests if they don’t. Start playing. Live scoring lets friends and family follow the action in real time. Afterwards, browse your round history in the app or on the web, and share highlights to social media with a tap.

Playing your way

Disc golf is flexible, and so is Tjing. Choose the play format that suits your round:

Individual

The classic format: each player throws their own discs and records their own score. Ideal for casual rounds or tournament practise.

Doubles

Team up with a friend. Play best shot (choose the better lie) or alternate shot for an extra challenge. You can also set up team matches — up to 10 players per team.

Match play

Spice things up by scoring hole-by-hole instead of by total strokes. Match play keeps the game competitive right to the last hole.

Tracking your progress

Seeing improvement is one of the most rewarding parts of disc golf. Tjing offers flexible stat tracking so you can start simple and add detail as you go.

TIP

Begin with basic stats, then move to advanced ones if you want deeper insights. The best tracking system is the one you will actually use.

Getting started with basic stats

If you’re new to stat tracking, basic stats give useful feedback with minimal effort. Basic stats include: circle-in (reached the circle in position to make a birdie) putting success from inside the circle makes from outside the circle out-of-bounds throws This gives a clear overview of how a round went and where to focus practise.

Diving deeper with advanced stats

For a complete picture, track each throw from tee to basket. Advanced stats let you record shot shapes, throw type, distance, obstructions and more — like a playbook of your round to identify patterns and improvements.

How it works

Enter stats based on your current lie — do not make assumptions about where a previous throw finished until you have marked the lie. Keeping full stats for an entire group can be time-consuming, so you can:

  • log extended stats just for yourself and basic stats for the rest of the card, or
  • let everyone enter their own full stats on the same scorecard.

How to enable

Tap your name on the scorecard to switch to extended stats.

The stats

Below are the available stats. Most are optional; throw type and distance to basket are mandatory for extended tracking. Some fields (like lie-to-basket) only become available after your initial tee shot.

Distance to basket (from tee)

On courses mapped by a course guardian, the tee distance will match the hole length. For subsequent shots, adjust the distance to represent how far you are from the basket on each lie until you mark the shot as in the basket.

Throwing from

This field auto-updates as you move closer to the basket (for example, it will mark circle 1 or bullseye when applicable). Options include:

  • on fairway
  • off fairway
  • drop zone
  • re-tee
  • circle 2
  • circle 1
  • bullseye

Lie to basket

Describes how easy or obstructed your approach to the basket is:

  • Clear — unobstructed approach; you can take your normal stance and shot.
  • Obstructed — something blocks your preferred line; you may need to adjust stance or shot selection.
  • Blocked — very limited or no clear shot; you might need a highly creative or low-percentage attempt.

Throw type

Select the throw used. When you are close to the basket, putt will be auto-selected but you can change it:

  • backhand
  • forehand
  • putt
  • tomahawk
  • thumber
  • roller

Shot shape

  • hyzer
  • anhyzer
  • flat

Basket hit

If you had a near-miss, mark how the disc contacted the basket:

  • rim
  • band
  • chains (strong side)
  • chains (weak side)

For chain hits, mark strong/weak relative to your putting orientation — for a right-handed backhand putt, the strong side would be the right side of the basket.

Restrictions encountered

If a shot encountered a restriction, mark it before moving to the next throw and recording the lie. Options include:

  • OB (out of bounds)
  • mando miss (mandatory missed)
  • hazard
  • lost disc

Added on this or next throw?

All stats are recorded based on your current lie. Restrictions must be added before you move to the next throw and log the next lie. This may feel confusing at first but becomes intuitive after one round.

Penalties

Add any penalties resulting from mandos, OBs or other rule violations.
